About

Perbal / Bélibaste is an artistic duo formed by a married couple. Neither followed a conventional path into art. Coming from entirely different directions, they found their way to artistic practice through curiosity, experimentation and a hands-on approach.

Their work moves between sculpture, installation and kinetic art. Rather than fitting within a particular artistic movement or medium, they have developed a visual language of their own, shaped by materials, craftsmanship and stories that matter to them.

They are drawn to the tension between fragility and strength, nature and technology, movement and stillness. Wire, wood, metal, found materials and elements from nature often find their way into the work. Some are carefully collected, others shaped and transformed in the studio. Materials that carry traces of time and use are particularly meaningful to them, as is the Japanese idea of wabi-sabi, the beauty found in imperfection and the passage of time.

Their work does not shy away from sensitive and sometimes difficult subjects, including personal histories, conflict, loss, and social and ecological questions. These themes are approached with sensitivity and a sense of wonder, creating work that can touch people without overwhelming them. Perbal / Bélibaste invites viewers to pause, feel and perhaps look at something from a different perspective.

Their practice is personal, hands-on and constantly evolving. From the first idea to the smallest detail, everything is made by hand, leaving room for experimentation and unexpected discoveries to shape the final work.
